The 2023 edition of the Italian Bike Festival (IBF) concluded on a high note, marking an unprecedented record in the world of two-wheeled mobility. 

Among the undisputed protagonists who lit up the Misano World Circuit’s asphalt, Brose and Newen made their mark by introducing a revolutionary innovation: a state-of-the-art 48V e-bike platform, poised to redefine the boundaries of sustainable mobility.

A foreseen success: numbers and growth at IBF 2023

IBF 2023 saw extraordinary participation, with 53 thousand visitors and a 26% increase compared to the previous edition. Organized by Taking Off, with the support of APT Servizi Emilia-Romagna and Visit Romagna, the event reaffirmed its status as a focal point for enthusiasts, buyers, and industry professionals.

The extensive exhibition area of 60 thousand square meters actively hosted presentations, tests, entertainment, and strategic meetings for three days, previewed in the “Stati Generali della Bicicletta” on September 14.

Amidst this excitement, our booth stood out not only for its strategic location, but primarily for the innovation we brought.

The presentation of the 48V platform garnered immense interest, underscoring our dedication to pushing the limits of e-bike technology.

The launch of the new platform captured the media’s attention, with a particular focus on the joint interview with Paolo Zubani, Head of the e-bike division at Newen, and Markus Wittag from Brose e-bike.

Innovation and power: the debut of Brose’s 48V motors

During an exclusive interview at IBF 2023, Paolo Zubani, Head of the e-bike division at Newen, shared enlightening insights into the latest innovations we are bringing to the world of e-bikes in collaboration with Brose.

“Brose meansnnovation,” Zubani stated, emphasizing how Generation 2 brought about a pioneering vision in the use of magnesium and how we are now pushing the boundaries even further with the new 48V motors.

Efficiency and high performance: the advantages of 48V

The new 48V motors represent a qualitative leap in terms of energy efficiency and performance. “This allows us to optimize battery consumption with lower heat dissipation, which is somewhat the hallmark of the 48-volt value,” Zubani explained.

Furthermore, the new generation of motors promises more power; these improvements have been achieved without compromising the distinctive qualities we have always pursued, such as silence, smoothness, and a constant and round pedal stroke.

A silent revolution: the integrated gear motor

In addition to the 48V motors, one of the innovations that generated great interest was our integrated gear motor, an advanced solution that promises to transform the riding experience, especially in urban environments.

“It’s like a scooter-style gear, so no need for manual shifting, or rather, it has smooth gear changes,” Zubani described. “We are the first to propose it and showcase it to our audience;” This motor not only provides an extremely smooth pedaling experience due to its automatic variation system, but it also opens the door to simpler and cleaner bicycle designs, without gears and potentially even without a traditional chain but with a belt.

“This means less noise, less maintenance, less dirt, and ease of use,” Zubani emphasized, highlighting how these features are particularly valuable for urban users who often contend with the inconveniences of traditional gear systems.

Towards the future: projects and awareness

Looking ahead, Zubani hinted at projects in the pipeline, such as a new 815-watt battery, which will further enhance the efficiency of 48V systems. He also emphasized the importance of conscious e-bike use, a point we consider fundamental as we work to expand the opportunities offered by electric mobility. In partnership with Brose, Newen is excited to lead this new era of innovation in the e-bike industry.
